Celiac disease is an auto immune disease in which
ingesting gluten damages the small intestines of the
person with celiac. Gluten is a protein found in wheat,
rye, and barley. It can also be in vitamins and medicines.
Celiac disease affects each person different. Symptoms
may occur in the digestive system, or other parts of
the body. In children most common is irritability and
digestive.
Celiac disease is genetic. Blood tests can help with
diagnosis, however an endoscopy is needed to confirm.
Only treatment is a strict gluten free diet.
