A Few Myth Busting Answers to Life Without Gluten

Living with Celiac disease requires special dietary needs, and a willingness to try new tastes.  It takes patience, planning and understanding your new lifestyle and needs.  Whether your newly diagnosed, or not, there are still myths about the diet. I will go over a few of them.

  • Will I outgrow Celiac disease?  Celiac disease is a hereditary autoimmune condition that cannot be outgrown.  After being on a gluten free diet, some feel better with no symptoms of the disease. It is often present sometimes without symptoms, yet causes damage.  It requires a strict, lifelong gluten free diet.

  • I still don't feel better on a gluten free diet, what should I do?  There are some areas to look at, you may not have given yourself enough time to heal. Children tend to heal faster than adults.

You may also be lactose intolerant, common with Celiac disease.  You may not realize, your
still consuming gluten.  This is the most common reason for not feeling better.
  •  Gluten free food is expensive.  How can I afford this new diet?  This is one of the main complaints of buying gluten free foods.  Until recent there wasn't as many choices to chose from.  Prices for many are coming down, but over all a gluten free label comes with a premium price.  Some tips, try cooking at home, purchase in bulk, stock your freezer with sale items.
