Gluten In Medications

Gluten in medicines, yes there can be, which is dangerous for people with Celiac disease.  For people with Celiac disease, there is only one treatment: follow a strict, life long gluten free diet. The diet part, requires reading labels, but allergens such as wheat will be listed.  However, there is no such labeling on medicines, which also can contain gluten.

Pharmacist need to know that Celiac is a serious genetic auto-immune disease.  They need to know
that medications containing gluten can cause harm to someone with the disease. Pharmacists can play an important role by helping determine if their medications contain gluten. You must make sure that they know of your allergy, and your disease.

Until there is labeling, you need to make sure all your vitamins, over the counter, and prescription drugs are gluten free.www.glutenfreedrugs.com
