Day 1 Of 7 Days of Healthy Nuts

Thinking about what to write daily has its challenges. I try to come up with different topics, today I thought of nuts and their benefits.  Many people love nuts, so I thought to go over a few and reviewed the nutritional benefits of different types of nuts.

Today I will talk about the health benefits of the Brazil nut.   Brazil nuts are found in trees in Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru.  They are high in calories, contain good amount of vitamins, anti oxidants and minerals.

1.  One cup of Brazil nuts contain about 720 calories, mostly from fat.  Much of the fat is in mono-unsaturated fatty acids like
palmitoleic and oleic acid.  These help lower the LDL or bad cholesterol and increase the HDL or good cholesterol.

2.  Brazil nuts are also a very good source of vitamin E.  Vitamin E is a powerful lipid soluble antioxidant, required for maintaining
the integrity of cell membrane of mucusa and skin.

3.  Brazil nuts also contain high levels of selenium.  Adequate selenium in the diet help prevent coronary artery disease, liver
cirrhosis and cancers.

4.  Most importantly they are gluten free, and a popular ingredient in the preparation of gluten free products.

5.  They are also high in vitamins B, niacin and folate, with a decent amount of copper, manganese, potassium, calcium and magnesium.

These are just some of the health benefits of the Brazil nut.  So if you haven't tried one, do it today.
