Some Lies About Gluten People Still Believe
When my son was diagnosed with Celiac disease, I felt sorry for his new lifestyle. I kept thinking what kid doesn't want pizza or dunkin donuts. What kid should worry if there will be something to eat at a party or friends house. I thought, why would anyone chose this if they didn't have too.
Many people have jumped on the gluten free bandwagon, for no good reason. Many people think it will help them, however they are most likely doing themselves no good. Here are some of the biggest myths people still believe about the protein that gives wheat its power.
1. You can lose weight on a gluten free diet.
Many stars claim giving up gluten lead them to a model skinny body. There is no current data to support this idea. The weight loss of those who have lost weight can usually be attributed to a healthier diet and exercise. When eating low carb, its mostly gluten free. If you follow a diet with veggies, fruit and protein you will lose weight.
2. Humans aren't meant to eat gluten.
In most cases, the immune system sees gluten and can eliminate it with no issues. A normal functioning human body can break it down without causing any health effects.
3. Gluten free diets are better for you.
Many gluten free foods contain more fat and calories, and are less nutritious than their traditional counterparts. Most are packaged and lacking in certain vitamins. Your only fooling yourself if you believe this one.
