How To Get Screened For Celiac

There are several blood tests that screen for
Celiac disease, the most common is called
a tTG-IgA test.  You must be consuming
gluten for this test to be accurate.  If your
results suggest Celiac, your doctor will
recommend a biopsy of your small
intestine to confirm the diagnosis.

People with Celiac disease carry one or
both genes. These are the HLA DQ2 and
DQ8 genes.  Carrying these is not a diagnosis,
nor does it mean you will develop the disease.
However if you have a first degree relative
with the disease, genetic testing can help
rule out if you can ever develop Celiac.
