As a Registered Dietitian and a mom of a son with Celiac, I want to educate on a healthy gluten free diet.

Gluten and Beauty Products
There is a connection between beauty and diet.
So for many, their food allergy is under control,
but creeps into their skin care. There are many
gluten free creams, lipsticks and makeup, but
there are quite a few with gluten.
Gluten is a combination of proteins found in
wheat, rye, and barley. It helps food keep its
shape. In beauty products gluten is used
because of its moisturizing benefits. Gluten
can be found in shampoos, conditioners, soaps,
creams, and chap sticks.
There is a big difference in ingesting and applying.
Rubbing cream in will not affect you, however
applying chap stick, you may swallow can.
There hasn't been evidence that cosmetics can
cause the same level of sensitivity to gluten
as through ingestion. With any lipstick or
chap stick, I would say gluten free is a must,
due to the possibility of ingesting it.
The choice is up to you. If they make gluten
free equivalent products, I would say use them.
