New Remedy For Celiac Disease
In an industrial collaboration project, TU Wien
has developed a medication that can alleviate or
eliminate the symptoms of Celiac disease. Hoping
to be available as early as 2021.
Although drugs have been studied to treat Celiac
disease, the side effects must be examined carefully.
There are initial studies being done, they will not
lead to a marketable product for years.
This is the reason, an entirely different approach has
been looked at. A medical product that attacks the
gluten molecules to render them harmless. They are
hoping this is available 2021.

Last Day Buzz Words
Here are a few more buzz words and
their meaning.
3. Antioxidants
Antioxidants are compounds in food
that neutralize free radials. If a product
is labeled as having high antioxidants, it has
been fortified with non naturally
occurring compounds. These foods usually
aren't as healthy, eating a balanced diet full
of fruits, lean meats and vegetables will do
the trick.
4. Naturally Sweetened
If something is labeled as naturally sweetened
it means that agave, honey, xylitol, or stevia
may have been used to sweeten it up. This
does not make the food any healthier for you.
5. Low Fat
Most low fat foods are just that low in fat.
However, fat is often replaced by sugar and
additives to boost the flavor. Always read
the label.

Some Health Buzzwords Day 1
Many of us fall prey to any new health
craze. Many think that anything labeled
organic or super is the best, but it pays
to be aware of the meaning. Buzz words
are just that, buzz words.
1. Gluten free
Gluten free products have hit the food
industry hard and fast. Many have
added sugar and fat to make the food
taste better due to lack of gluten.
Gluten free, should be used for those
who need it.
2. My favorite, Organic
Organic food is the product of a system
which avoids the use of pesticides, and
fertilizers. According to the USDA data,
organic foods have fewer pesticide residues,
but both are within range of the level of
safe consumption. It is unclear if the
natural pesticides used in organic farming
are safer than conventional farming.

Eating Out Safely
Eating out with Celiac can be a challenge to say
the least. Always look at the menu ahead of time,
read reviews and call ahead if needed.
Here are a few tips to eat out safely.
1. Always look at how food is prepared. Check to see if
they season it, before grilling or baking. Check to see if
they use separate fryers for fries. Many places now
offer gluten free, however they sometimes do not
understand cross contamination.
