Are Oats Gluten Free?
Answer- Sometimes
Oats are not gluten free when-
They have been cut with other grains. Oats are often produced
at the same factories as wheat, barley and malt, and are
therefore contaminated and not safe for people with Celiac
disease. Always, always check the label.
Oats are gluten free when-
They are listed as gluten free, when they test at 20 ppm or less.
This means they were harvested, processed and packaged
on uncontaminated equipment.
However-
There are still many that may not be able to tolerate any oats.
This is because oats contain avenin, a protein that is similar
to gluten.
